Conducted in February of 2016, a recent survey provided by Harris Poll confirms that peace of mind remains the biggest driver for installing a home security system. The survey was developed on behalf of a fellow My Alarm Center brand.
It was found that the largest majority, at 93% of Americans, said that it’s important for local authorities to be informed when a home security alert occurs, as detected by a home alarm system. This shows that a professionally monitored security system is preferred as it will alert emergency response teams immediately.
Nearly 2 in 3 Americans, at 63%, do not consider self-monitored security systems to be as reliable or safe as professionally monitored home security systems. 81% of survey respondents, indicate that they prefer security system is accessible wirelessly and remotely from a mobile device, computer or tablet while they are away from home. Also, the majority of Americans, at 72% seek home alarm systems that integrate with common home functions, by automating their heating and air utilities as well as lighting, automating their home.
Amy Kothari, CEO and President of My Alarm Center reflects, “smart home technology is popular, but the survey shows that homeowners want more than a ‘smart thing’ when it comes to protecting their home and family. Homeowners want assurances that help will arrive when their family needs it, and professional monitoring alerts first responders in case of an emergency.”
